Birding Itinerary
Digboi - Namdapha Tiger Reserve - Deban > Hornbill - Deban - Saikhowa National Park - Tinsukia - Kaziranga National Park - Nameri National Park - Shillong - Mawphlang - Shillong - Guwahati
Day 01 : Arrive Dibrugarh - Digboi, 65 km
On arrival at Dibrugarh airport meet with our representative and drive to Digboi. On arrival check in at CTA Oil guest house. Overnight stay at guest house.
Day 02 : Digboi
Birding at Digboi Oil Reserve (Permissions need to be arranged with security supplied from local police station) look for key species such as Chestnut-backed Laughing thrush and other woodland birds such as White-cheeked Partridge, Jerdon's Baza (rare), Grey-bellied Tesia, etc. Also try looking for White-winged Duck in the marshes within the reserve. Other birds include Pale-headed Woodpecker, Sultan Tit, White-browed Piculet, Oriental Hobby, etc. Overnight stay at guest house.
Day 03 : Digboi Oil Reserve
Explore the nature reserve set up by the Indian Oil Cooperation to protect the lowland forest in and around the oldest operating oilfield in the world. Overnight stay at guest house.
Day 04: Digboi - Namdapha National Park, 100 km
Morning after breakfast drive to Namdapha National Park. On arrival check in at the Deban resort. wildlife resort. Overnight stay at resort.
Day 05: Namdapha National Park
Morning after breakfast birding tour to Namdhapa National Park. In Namdahapa one can find a large species of Birds like Ibisbill, Long- billed Plover, White-bellied Heron, Crested and Blyth's Kingfisher, Black-breasted Thrush, Slender-billed Scimitar-Babbler, Snowy throated Babbler, Rufous-necked Laughingthrush, Pale Blue Flycatcher, Large-billed Leaf Warbler, Lesser Fish Eagle, Sultan Tit, Beautiful Nuthatch, White-naped Yuhina, Great, Wreathed , Rufous-necked and Brown Hornbills, White-cheeked Partridge, Pale-headed Woodpecker, Blue-naped Pitta, Collared Treepie, Wedge-billed Wren Babbler,Greater and Lesser Rufous-headed Parrotbills, Chestnut-backed Laughingthrush, Rufous-throated Fulvetta, Green Cochoa, and Dark-sided Thrush. Overnight stay at Namdhapa National park.
Day 06 : Deban - Hornbill, 09 km
Morning after breakfast start trekking to Hornbill and look for different birds like Rufous necked Hornbill, Blue-Naped Pitta, Wedge-billed wren Babbler and Snowy throated Babbler. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 07: Hornbill - Bulbulia - Hornbill
Morning after breakfast trekking from Hornbill to Beyond Bulbulia, here we will watch the beautiful nuthatch, Green cochoa, Pin-tailed green imperial pigeon, Black-headed shrike babbler, Snowy-throated, White hooded babbler, Wreathed hornbill etc. Later back to Horbill. Overnight stay in camp.
Day 08 : Hornbill - Deban, 09 km
Morning after breakfast back to Deban. On arrival check in at forest rest house. Rest of the day free at leisure. Overnight stay at rest house.
Day 09: Deban
Full day birding around Deban. Overnight stay at forest rest house.
Day 10 : Deban - Tinsukia Dibru Saikhowa National Park, 150 km
Morning after breakfast drive to Tinsukia. On arrival check in wildlife resort. Overnight stay at resort.
Day 11: Tinsukia - Dibru Saikhowa - Tinsukia
Morning after breakfast an excursion to Dibru Saikhowa national park. This sanctuary was set up in the year 1986 to protect their fast disappearing habitats. In the evening return to Tinsukia. Overnight stay at hotel.
Dibru-Saikhowa is situated in the south bank of the river Brahmaputra in the extreme east of Assam state in India. It lies between 27°30' N to 27°45' N latitude and 95°10' E to 95°45'E longtitute at an average altitude of 118 m (range 110-126m) above the mean sea level. It is among the most vibrant wildness on earth and is also distinct for her pristine scenic beauty, situated in the flood plan of Brahmaputra, Dibru-Saikhowa is a safe haven for many extremely rare and endangered species of wild life.
Day 12 : Tinsukia - Dibru Saikhowa - Tinsukia
Birding around Dibru-Saikhowa (walk from Guijan to Kolomy 5km - 4 hours): Black-breasted Parrotbill, Jerdon's Bushchat, Marsh Babbler and Pale-capped Pigeon. Other birds in the reserve include Black-breasted Thrush, Hodgson's Redstart, Grey-sided Bush Warbler, Chestnut-capped Babbler, Jerdon's Babbler, etc.
Day 13: Tinsukia - Kaziranga National Park, 275 km
Morning after breakfast drive to Kaziranga National park. On arrival check in at the wildlife resorts. Overnight stay at resort.
Day 14: Kaziranga National Park
Morning after breakfast Jeep safari to the eastern range of national park- this part of the Park is best for birding. Crested Serpent Eagle is common while Palla's Eagle and Grey Headed Fishing Eagle are frequently seen. Others include Greater Adjutant Stork, Bar Headed Geese, Whistling Teal, Pelicans etc. With great luck one might see the endangered Bengal Floricans. Return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch jeep safari to either central or western range. Overnight stay at resort.
Day 15 : Kaziranga National Park
Early morning elephant safari (05:30 am to 06 : 30 am) to the national park for wildlife viewing. Wake up call half an hour before the ride. Return back to resort for breakfast. After breakfast jeep safari (either central or western range). Return to lodge for lunch. After lunch jeep safari (if visited central range in the morning then western range or vice versa. Overnight stay at wildlife resort.
Day 16 : Kaziranga National Park - Jorhat, 90 km - Majuli - Jorhat
Morning after breakfast a day trip to Majuli. Upstream ferry crossing to Majuli for bird watching. From Jorhat it takes approx 02 hrs. Visit monasteries and return to the mainland (Jorhat) in the afternoon. Downstream ferry crossing and overnight at a heritage tea Bungalow.
Day 17 : Jorhat - Kaziranga, 90 km / 02 hrs
Morning after breakfast drive to Kaziranga National park. On arrival check in at the wildlife resort. In the afternoon safari to the eastern range on national park for bird watching. Overnight stay at resort.
Day 18: Kaziranga - Nameri National Park, 100 km
Morning after breakfast drive to Nameri National Park. On arrival check in at the Camp. The habitat is diverse more close to Manas National Park. Sighting of wild animals is difficult but the place has over 350 species of birds. Known to be a good place to sight the White-winged Wood Duck, pax can view Ibisbill (uncommon), Ruddy Kingfisher, Wreathed hornbill, Long-billed Ringed Plover, Sultan Tit, and Yellow-bellied and White-throated Fantails
Day 19: Nameri National Park
Morning after breakfast a guided trekking through Nameri Forest for bird watching. Overnight stay in Camp.
Day 20 : Nameri - Shillong, 395 km
Morning after breakfast drive to Shillong (approx 08 hrs journey) . On arrival check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 21: Shilong
Full day birding at Shillong Peak - look for Tawny-breasted Wren Babbler and other northeast Indian hills state species such as Crested Finchbill, Rustycapped Fulvetta, Striated Bulbul, etc. Overnight stay at hotel
Day 22 : Shillong - Cherrapunji
Morning birding at Mawphlang, the sacred forest. In the afternoon drive to Cherrapunjee. On arrival check in at the resort. Later bird watching, we will watch the Dark-rumped Swift here. Overnight stay at resort.
Day 23 : Cherrapunji - Guwahati, 158 km
Morning after breakfast check out from the resort & leave for Guwahati. On arrival check in at the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 24 : Departure
Transfer to the Guwahati airport to board the flight for onward destination.
